MASSAGE TREATMENTS

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the manipulation of superficial muscle layers (muscles closer to the skin surface) to promote relaxation and improve circulation and skin tone.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep pressure and friction techniques are used for chronic muscle tension, soreness, and sports injuries. Deep-tissue massage, when done correctly by a knowledgeable practitioner, should do three things consistently: First, deep tissue massage should address your soft tissue muscles by working on superficial muscles (muscles closer to the skin surface) and then working on deep muscles (muscles which lie under the superficial muscles). This warmup can take 15-20 mins; Secondly, deep tissue massage should address connections and body segments which are not necessarily in the same location as your pain or injury; Thirdly, your practitioner should avoid unneccessary force, even if requested, because it may cause your muscle tissues to recoil from a need to self-protect. Experiencing pain during a deep tissue massage that “Hurts so Good” can be therapeutic as long as you are not in a self-defense mode. Experiencing pain that hurts is an indication that something is wrong If you experience pain, please tell your therapist so you can enjoy your massage.

Neuromuscular & Trigger Point Therapy

Pressure is applied directly to specific muscle irritations to help release spasms, tight muscles, and referral pain. This technique is usually combined with Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage.

 Energy Work

Ancient and new body work techniques are used to manipulate the bio-energy of the client to restore harmony and remove blocks and restrictions from the body.

“Moms To Be” Pregnancy (Prenatal) Massage

Different massage techniques can be used to stimulate blood flow; reduce fatigue; and relieve headaches, back pain, and leg cramps

Infant & Premature Infant Massage

Massage helps infants relax, sleep better, and allows premature infants to use less energy so they can gain weight quicker. Massage is great for toddlers too.

Couples Massage

This is a great way to enjoy your massages together or back-to-back.

Chair Massage

10-20 minute upper body massage covering the back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, and scalp. This is a quick and convenient way to relax and rejuvenate the body at your place of employment or special events.

SPECIALTY MASSAGE TREATMENTS

Pre/Post Event Sports Massage

Vigorous strokes and stretching techniques are used to release spasms, soreness, tight muscles, and sports injuries. Pre-event Sports Massage can help you prepare for a competitive event as many athletes use this time to focus on their upcoming event and visualize their success.  A pre-event massage is typically brief and invigorating, usually fifteen to twenty minutes long, and given within an hour before your event through your clothing.  The therapist will rock and jostle your arms and legs and use compression to warm-up and energize your muscles which should allow you to do more with fewer injuries.

Post-event Sports Massage should be a calming and relaxing experience with the goal of easing pain and soreness and reducing inflammation. Your therapist will use a slow compression stroke to bring blood and oxygen to tense areas and help flush out metabolic waste products built up during heavy muscle use.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, light-touch method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system which consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. It also includes the bones of the face, skull, mouth, and sacrum or tailbone. CST is performed on a person fully clothed. The therapist monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral system and then uses delicate techniques to encourage your own body’s natural healing processes to release restrictions and negative effects of stress on the brain, spinal cord, and central nervous system.   CranioSacral Therapy has a remarkable effectiveness in relieving a wide range of conditions.

Myoskeletal Massage

Myoskeletal massage is the process of mobilizing joints through soft tissue manipulation. During sessions, clients are asked to participate in assisted stretching techniqueswhich facilitate pain free movement. This is a must try for anyone experiencing chronic neck and/or back pain, scoliosis, carpal tunnel, thoracic outlet syndrome, forward head posture, poor posture, slumped shoulders, or joint dysfunctions.

Massage With Acupressure

Restore energy, ease pain and tension, and renew a sense of well-being with this 60 minute full body massage and acupressure treatment.  Acupressure is an ancient form of Chinese art which uses finger pressure to open the body's natural energy channels to keep your energy clear and free flowing. Acupressure can help relieve common physical complaints such as back pain, insomnia, migraines, anxiety, PMS, aging, stomachaches, arthritis, pain relief, and allergies.

"Awaken" Acupressure/Active Release

This is a subtle, but very powerful treatment that is comprised of deep breathing and visualization techniques as well as acupressure, active and passive release, trigger point therapy, energy work, thai massage, stretching, range of motion, and client participation. This treatment can be incorporated into your regular massage sessions, but it is best received fully clothed with the lights on to give you a greater sense of your mind/body connections, and to keep you fully engaged in the treatment. It is also a very therapeutic approach to specific or chronic health issues.  Several clients have informed me that they have received healing on deeper levels that last longer, a greater sense of range of motion, that they have felt more balanced or energized afterwards, and that they have had a greater sense of well being. Aromatherapy is also available with this treatment upon request.

Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage

On a physical level: the lymphatic, immune, circulatory, respiratory, muscular, and digestive systems are treated to promote health. On an emotional level: the nervous system and the senses or awareness are tuned. On a spiritual level: it helps achieve harmony between body, mind, and soul through opening energy channels in the body. This type of bodywork may also release stress and trauma locked away in the subconscious mind.

Lomi Lomi is called the ‘loving hands massage’ and works gently, but deeply into the muscle tissues using continuous; flowing strokes totally nurturing the body. The practitioner uses thumbs, fingers, heels, forearms, and palms of the hands in flowing movements over the body that brings oxygen to every cell. Lomi Lomi itself means to break up congestion/restrictions into smaller pieces.

Lymphatic Drainage

The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our body’s ability to operate at peak performance. The lymph system drains fluids, detoxifies, regenerates tissues, filters out toxins and foreign substances, and helps us maintain a healthy immune system. If your lymph circulation is stagnant, toxins accumulate and compromise cellular functions, which may lead to physical ailments.

During the treatment, gentle, wave-like movements activate lymph and circulation of interstitial fluid (fluid between cells) as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune system and parasympathetic nervous system.

Lymphatic drainage is just in time for allergy season as it relieves numerous chronic and subacute inflammations such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and otitis (inflammation of the ear). Other results may include: reduction in edemas (swelling), detoxification, relief of chronic pain, tissue regeneration (which includes burns, wounds, stretch marks, and wrinkles), stimulation of the immune system, reduction of symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, reduction of muscle tension, alleviation of some forms of constipation, reduction of adipose (fatty tissue) and cellulite tissue, and you may also experience anti-aging effects and a sense of deep relaxation to aid insomnia, stress, loss of vitality, and memory loss.

Sinus Drainage

Light rhythmic strokes are used on the face, chest, arms, neck, back, and lymphatic ducts to relieve sinus pain, sinus and chest congestion, and fatigue. This effective technique also encourages the correct flow of sinus drainage.

TMJ Release

This treatment includes a facial massage which manipulates facial muscles related to the TMJ joint to relieve temporal mandibular joint pain and CranioSacral therapy to readjust the temporal bones and other skull joints.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a holistic therapy that balances body, mind, and spirit; and promotes health and well being. If we feel unbalanced, it can lead to a whole host of symptoms and diseases. The stress of modern life, poor diet, lifestyle, and pollution can all unbalance and block our energy. Indian Head Massage is an invaluable way to rebalance us, encourage healing, and prevent diseases from occurring.

The traditional art of Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Indian Head Massage has evolved from a technique, practiced by familes all over India as part of their everyday life, into a comprehensive, popular, and fast growing therapy shared worldwide. Although the term “Indian Head Massage” suggests a treatment restricited to the head only, massage is also performed on the neck, shoulders, upper back, and arms.

What are the Benefits?

Indian Head Massage helps to balance every system of the body. It improves blood supply by distributing fresh blood carrying vital supplies of oxygen and nutrients to the cells and takes away waste products such as carbon dioxide. Circulation is improved particularly in the brain, scalp, face, neck, and shoulders which encourages alertness of mind and body. It’s been known to prevent muscle pain and stiffness, and can improve the condition of your skin and hair. It boosts the efficiency of the lymphatic system allowing toxins in the tissues to be eliminated effectively, and can reduce tension headaches. Lactic acid accumulated from exercise can be eliminated more efficiently and you may experience increased mobility in your joints. Indian Head Massage also relaxes and soothes tense eye muscles which may make your eyes clearer and brighter. It’s an excellent therapy for relieving nasal congestion and conditions such as sinusitis; which may ultimately improve your sense of smell, and can help to alleviate jaw conditions such as TMJ. It can help calm the mind and help reduce sleeping problems. In addition, you may notice improved concentration and creativity, raised energy levels, and a deep sense of peace.

Ear Candling

During a candling session, you lie on your side with your body in straight alignment while a candle is inserted into a protective plate. The candle is then lit and placed into your ear to withdraw ear wax and fungus
deposits from deep within your ear canal. There is no pain. Ear candling may relieve headaches, ringing in ears, ear infections, TMJ dysfunction, plugged ears, pressure in ears, chronic sinusitis, imbalance, post nasal drip, or aches and pain.

Zoku Shin Do (Japanese Foot Massage)

Zoku Shin Do (the heart of the feet) is the oldest form of East Asian Foot Reflexology which can be dated back more than 5,000 years to ancient China. Zoku Shin Do is unique because East Asian medicine believes the foot is a very important part of proper meridian balance and function since the foot is considered the transition area between yin (energized) and yang (relaxed) meridians (pathways which life energy passes through). Well balanced meridians lead to well balanced health.

Receiving frequent applications of Japanese foot massage can have many benefits which include: repairing distortions of the feet, stimulating internal organs, and improving overall health conditions which include: alleviating high body tension problems such as; lower backaches, shoulder and neck tension, and headaches. Repairing distortions of the feet not only improves the structure of the foot, but also improves the entire structure and alignment of the body. As proper alignment is restored, any distortions in the pelvis and spine which may cause imbalances in the feet may be gradually corrected.   In addition, Japanese foot massage may loosen tight or cramped muscles, ligaments, and bones in the feet and ankles. Foot massage promotes proper blood flow to the feet and also restores the arch of the foot making it less tiring to stand for long periods of time. Foot massage is not only good for the feet, but for the entire body and mind as well.

What to expect during a Zoku Shin Do session...Your Zoku Shin Do treatment will take approximately 30 minutes. It begins with a five minute hot pack application to warm up your feet which leads to a massage warm up technique and applications with and without lotion or oils to target different superficial and deep muscle layers. After your massage you will be requested to drink 2 cups of warm water which is essential to assist you with eliminating toxins from the body. (If you don’t drink enough warm water, toxins may stay in the blood stream and the results of the massage could be lessened). A regular foot massage schedule of once or twice a week or every 10 days is recommended because it is more effective to receive foot massage on a regular basis than to receive several treatments in a short period of time and then go several months without treatment. It is not recommended to extend treatments more than once daily. (FOOD FOR THOUGHT-A famous Japanese proverb says...Aging starts from the feet).

Reflexology

Reflexology is a unique treatment of using the thumb and fingers to apply specific pressures to reflex points found in the feet. These reflex points correspond to glands, organs, muscles, and many other functions of the body. As a reflexologist works each reflex point, stress and tension is released in the corresponding body zone and an overall feeling of relaxation is achieved. Because reflexology works internally, it also has a balancing effect on each gland, organ, and body region. Clients typically experience relief from tension and pain, greater feelings of well being, and increased energy. This is a one hour treatment on the feet.
